  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 100 g grated cheese
  • 500 ml heavy cream
  • 0.5 tsp nutmeg
  • 4 potatoes
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions

Step 1
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Peel and thinly slice the potatoes.

Mince the garlic cloves.

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Pour in the heavy cream, then add the salt, black pepper, and nutmeg. Stir to combine and heat until the mixture is warm but not boiling.

Layer half of the potato slices in a baking dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle half of the grated cheese on top.

Repeat with the remaining potato slices, cream mixture, and grated cheese.

Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.

Let the gratin cool for a few minutes before serving.
