These delicious and crispy sauerkraut balls are perfect for an appetizer or snack. They combine the tangy flavor of sauerkraut with savory sausage, cream cheese, and spices, all coated in breadcrumbs and fried to perfection.
Directions
Step 1
In a large skillet, cook the sausage and onion over medium heat until the sausage is no longer pink, breaking it into crumbles. Drain and cool.
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine the sausage mixture, sauerkraut, and cream cheese until well blended.
Step 3
Stir in 1 cup of bread crumbs. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Step 4
Shape the mixture into 1-inch balls. Roll in flour, then dip in beaten egg, and coat with remaining bread crumbs.
Step 5
In a deep-fat fryer or large skillet, heat the oil to 375°F (190°C). Fry the balls, a few at a time, for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
