Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 dried red chili
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 onion
  • 200 g red lentils
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 800 ml water

Directions

Step 1
Rinse the red lentils thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear.
Step 2
In a large pot, combine the lentils, water, turmeric powder, and salt.
Step 3
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes until the lentils are soft and cooked through.

In a separate pan, heat the oil over medium heat.
Step 5
Add the cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and dried red chilies. Sauté until the seeds start to splutter.
Step 6
Add the chopped onion and garlic. Cook until the onion becomes golden brown.
Step 7
Stir in the chopped tomato and cook until the tomato softens and blends into the mixture.
Step 8
Pour the spice mixture into the cooked lentils and mix well.
Step 9
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
