Ingredients

  • 200 g bacon
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 30 g brown sugar
  • 30 g butter
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 700 g green beans
  • 1 onion
  • 60 ml soy sauce

Directions

Step 1
In a large skillet, cook the diced bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the bacon grease in the skillet.
Step 2
Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté in the bacon grease until softened, about 5 minutes.
Step 3
Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Step 4
Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet and stir to coat with the onion and garlic mixture.
Step 5
Pour in the soy sauce and sprinkle the brown sugar over the green beans. Stir well to combine.
Step 6
Add the cooked bacon back to the skillet along with the butter and black pepper. Stir to combine.
Step 7
Cover the skillet and reduce the heat to low. Let the green beans cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are tender.
Step 8
Serve the smothered green beans warm as a side dish.
