Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 200 grams brown sugar
  • 60 grams butter
  • 1 egg
  • 180 grams flour
  • 240 ml hot water
  • 240 ml molasses
  • 1 pie crust

Directions

Step 1
Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F).
Step 2
In a bowl, mix together the flour and brown sugar.
Step 3
Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 4
In another bowl, combine the molasses, hot water, and baking soda.
Step 5
Beat the egg and add it to the molasses mixture.
Step 6
Pour the molasses mixture into the unbaked pie crust.
Step 7
Sprinkle the flour and sugar crumb mixture on top.
Step 8
Bake for about 35-40 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown.
Step 9
Allow the pie to cool before serving.
