A rich and creamy homemade ice cream flavored with the distinct taste of black walnuts. Perfect for a sweet treat on a hot day.
Directions
Step 1
In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, and sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is hot, but not boiling.
Step 2
In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Gradually add a small amount of the hot cream mixture to the egg yolks, whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
Step 3
Slowly pour the egg yolk mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining cream mixture, whisking constantly.
Step 4
Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
Step 5
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow the mixture to cool completely, then chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Step 6
Once chilled, pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Step 7
During the last few minutes of churning, add the chopped black walnuts.
Step 8
Transfer the ice cream to a container and freeze for at least 2 hours before serving.
