Kanafa is a delightful Middle Eastern dessert made with shredded phyllo dough, cheese, and a sweet syrup. This recipe yields a crispy, gooey, and delicious treat that is perfect for any occasion.

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Butter a large baking dish with some of the melted butter.

In a large bowl, mix the shredded phyllo dough with the remaining melted butter until well coated.

Spread half of the phyllo dough mixture evenly in the baking dish.

In another bowl, combine the shredded mozzarella and ricotta cheese.

Spread the cheese mixture over the phyllo dough layer in the baking dish.

Cover the cheese layer with the remaining phyllo dough, pressing down gently.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, until the top is golden brown and crispy.

While the Kanafa is baking, prepare the syrup. In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
