Delicious Fried Apple Pies

  • 3 apples
  • 30 g butter
  • 5 g cinnamon
  • 60 ml cold water
  • 250 g flour
  • 15 ml lemon juice
  • 1 g nutmeg
  • 1 g salt
  • 120 g shortening
  • 100 g sugar
  • 500 ml vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1
In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
Step 2
Add the diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook until apples are tender, about 10 minutes. Let cool.
Step 3
In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 4
Gradually add cold water, tossing with a fork until a dough forms. Divide dough in half and shape each into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Step 5
On a lightly floured surface, roll one disk of dough to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into 6-inch circles. Repeat with remaining dough.
Step 6
Place a heaping tablespoon of apple filling on one half of each dough circle. Fold dough over filling and press edges with a fork to seal.
Step 7
In a deep skillet, heat vegetable oil to 180°C (350°F). Fry pies, a few at a time, until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
