Springerle are traditional German anise-flavored cookies, characterized by their embossed designs. These cookies are perfect for the holiday season and can be enjoyed with a cup of tea or coffee.

Ingredients

  • 700 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp anise extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 4 eggs
  • 500 g powdered sugar

Directions

Step 1
Beat the eggs until light and fluffy.
Step 2
Gradually add the powdered sugar and continue beating until well incorporated.
Step 3
Mix in the anise extract.
Step 4
Sift together the flour and baking powder, then gradually add to the egg mixture to form a dough.
Step 5
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1 cm thickness.
Step 6
Use Springerle molds or cookie cutters to cut out shapes, then transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Step 7
Let the cookies dry at room temperature for 12-24 hours.
Step 8
Preheat the oven to 150°C (300°F) and bake the cookies for 15-20 minutes, or until set but not browned.
