A traditional Cuban black beans recipe that is rich in flavor, easy to prepare, and perfect as a side dish or main course.
Directions
Step 1
In a large pot, combine black beans and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour.

In a separate pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped green bell pepper, onion, and minced garlic. Sauté until vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
Step 3
Add sautéed vegetables to the pot with beans. Stir in cumin, oregano, bay leaf, salt, and black pepper.
Step 4
Continue to simmer the beans for another hour, or until beans are tender and the flavors have melded together.
Step 5
Remove bay leaf before serving. Serve hot as a side dish or main course.
