Traditional Dutch Oliebollen

Oliebollen are a traditional Dutch treat, often enjoyed during New Year's celebrations. These deep-fried doughnuts are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, filled with raisins and dusted with powdered sugar.

Ingredients

  • 7 grams active dry yeast
  • 500 grams all-purpose flour
  • 1 apple
  • 2 eggs
  • 400 ml milk
  • powdered sugar
  • 150 grams raisins
  • 10 grams salt
  • 50 grams sugar
  • vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
Step 2
Warm the milk to lukewarm and dissolve the yeast in it.
Step 3
Add the milk mixture and eggs to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
Step 4
Fold in the raisins and chopped apple.
Step 5
Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the batter rise in a warm place for about an hour.
Step 6
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep-fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 180°C (350°F).
Step 7
Using two spoons, form small balls of batter and carefully drop them into the hot oil.
Step 8
Fry the oliebollen until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-6 minutes.
Step 9
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Step 10
Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
