Step 1
Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease a loaf pan.

Place the dates and baking soda in a bowl. Pour the boiling water over them and let it sit for 15 minutes.

In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl.

Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the date mixture. Stir in the chopped walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.

Bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
