In a large saucepan, combine honey, sugar, and shortening. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture comes to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool.

Beat in eggs and milk to the cooled mixture.

In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and cloves. Gradually add to the honey mixture, stirring until well blended.

Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight.

Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F).
