Classic Toad in the Hole

Toad in the Hole is a traditional British dish featuring sausages baked in a Yorkshire pudding batter. It's a comforting and hearty meal that's perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 300 ml milk
  • 0.5 tsp pepper
  • 200 g plain flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 8 sausages
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 100 ml water

Directions

Step 1
Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F).
Step 2
In a large bowl, sift the flour and mix in the salt and pepper.
Step 3
Make a well in the center and crack the eggs into it.
Step 4
Gradually whisk in the milk and water until you have a smooth batter.
Step 5
Heat the oil in a large roasting tin in the preheated oven for 5 minutes.
Step 6
Add the sausages to the hot oil and roast for 10 minutes, turning halfway through.
Step 7
Pour the batter over the sausages and return the tin to the oven.
Step 8
Bake for 25-30 minutes until the batter is risen and golden.
Step 9
Serve immediately with your favorite gravy and vegetables.
