Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 225 g cream cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 120 ml mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 onions
  • 0.5 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 240 ml sour cream
  • 1 tsp sugar

Directions

Step 1
In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat.
Step 2
Add the thinly sliced onions, salt, and sugar to the skillet.
Step 3
Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, until they are deeply caramelized, about 45 minutes. Reduce the heat if the onions start to burn.
Step 4
Remove the onions from the heat and let them cool slightly.
Step 5
In a large bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise until smooth.
Step 6
Stir in the caramelized onions, garlic powder, and pepper.
Step 7
Mix until well combined and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let the flavors meld.
