Ingredients

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 carrots
  • 0.5 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion
  • 1 cup peas
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 cups water

Directions

Step 1
Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
Step 2
In a medium pot, bring the water to a boil. Add the rice, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
Step 3
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

Stir in the diced carrots and cook for another 5 minutes until they start to soften.

Add the turmeric powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

Add the cooked rice and frozen peas to the skillet. Mix well to ensure the turmeric evenly coats the rice. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until the peas are heated through.
