Khachapuri is a traditional Georgian dish of cheese-filled bread. It's deliciously rich and comforting, perfect for any cheese lover. This recipe provides a step-by-step guide to making this unique and flavorful bread at home.
Directions
Step 1
In a large bowl, mix the warm water, milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
Step 2
Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
Step 3
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Step 4
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Step 5
Preheat your oven to 220°C (430°F).
Step 6
Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal pieces. Roll each piece into a round or oval shape.
Step 7
In a bowl, mix the feta and mozzarella cheese together. Place half of the cheese mixture in the center of each dough round.
Step 8
Fold the edges of the dough over the cheese, leaving a space in the center. Twist the edges to seal them.
Step 9
Place the bread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the edges with melted butter.
Step 10
Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until the bread is golden brown.
Step 11
Remove from the oven and make a small well in the center of each bread. Add an egg yolk into each well.
Step 12
Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes or until the egg yolk is set.
Step 13
Serve your Khachapuri hot and enjoy!
