Candied lemon peel is a delightful treat that combines the tartness of lemon with a sweet, chewy texture. Perfect for snacking, garnishing desserts, or adding a zesty touch to your favorite recipes.
Directions
Step 1
Wash the lemons thoroughly and peel them, making sure to remove the white pith.
Step 2
Cut the peels into thin strips.
Step 3
Place the lemon peels in a saucepan and cover them with cold water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then drain. Repeat this process two more times to remove the bitterness.
Step 4
In the same saucepan, combine 400g sugar and 250ml water. Bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
Step 5
Add the lemon peels to the sugar syrup and simmer over low heat for about 45 minutes, or until the peels become translucent.
Step 6
Using a slotted spoon, remove the peels from the syrup and place them on a wire rack to cool and dry for a few hours.
Step 7
Optional: Roll the candied lemon peels in extra sugar for added sweetness and texture.
