Step 1
In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes.

Gradually add the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating on low speed until fully incorporated. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.

Add the vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream. Beat on high speed for 3 minutes until the frosting is light and fluffy.

If the frosting is too thick, add more heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is reached.
Step 5
Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Before using, bring the frosting to room temperature and beat again until smooth.
