Greek Orange Phyllo Cake

A traditional Greek dessert made with phyllo dough, infused with citrus flavors and soaked in a sweet syrup.

Ingredients

  • 10 g baking powder
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 eggs
  • 250 g Greek yogurt
  • 200 ml orange juice
  • 2 orange zest
  • 450 g phyllo dough
  • 200 g sugar
  • 200 g sugar for syrup
  • 5 ml vanilla extract
  • 200 ml vegetable oil
  • 240 ml water

Directions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
Step 2
Crumble the phyllo dough into small pieces and set aside.
Step 3
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy.
Step 4
Add the Greek yogurt, vegetable oil, baking powder, orange zest, and orange juice to the egg mixture. Mix well.
Step 5
Fold the crumbled phyllo dough into the mixture until fully combined.
Step 6
Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and spread it evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until golden brown.

While the cake is baking, prepare the syrup by combining water, sugar, and cinnamon stick in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes.

Remove the syrup from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let it cool slightly.

Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes. Pour the syrup evenly over the cake.
