Step 1
In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, flour, and salt.

Gradually stir in milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is thickened and bubbly.

Reduce heat to low and cook for 2 more minutes. Remove from heat.

Stir a small amount of the hot mixture into the beaten egg yolks, then return all to the saucepan, stirring constantly.

Cook for 2 minutes more, then remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

Layer one-third of the vanilla wafers in the bottom of a 2-quart baking dish. Top with one-third of the banana slices and one-third of the pudding.
