This classic hard candy recipe is perfect for creating colorful and flavorful candies that are great for gifts or treats. The process involves boiling sugar, corn syrup, and water to a specific temperature, then adding flavor and color before letting the mixture set into hard candy.

Ingredients

  • 240 ml corn syrup
  • 1 tsp flavoring
  • food coloring
  • 30 grams powdered sugar
  • 400 grams sugar
  • 60 ml water

Directions

Step 1
Grease a baking sheet with butter or use a silicone mat. Set aside.
Step 2
In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
Step 3
Attach a candy thermometer to the saucepan. Without stirring, bring the mixture to a boil until it reaches 150°C (300°F).
Step 4
Remove from heat and quickly stir in flavoring and food coloring, if using.
Step 5
Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. Allow it to cool until it is just cool enough to handle.
Step 6
Dust a clean surface with powdered sugar, then carefully lift the entire sheet of candy and transfer it to the surface.
Step 7
Using a sharp knife, cut the candy into small pieces. Allow the pieces to cool completely.
Step 8
Store the hard candy in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
