In a small saucepan, combine the white miso paste, sake, mirin, and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature.

Place the black cod fillets in a shallow dish and pour the miso marinade over them, ensuring they are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
