Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 lb collard greens
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 onion
  • 0.5 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions

Step 1
In a large pot, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pot.
Step 2
Add the chopped onion to the pot and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
Step 3
Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
Step 4
Stir in the chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer.
Step 5
Add the collard greens to the pot, a handful at a time, stirring until wilted down.
Step 6
Cover and cook on low heat for about 45-60 minutes, until the greens are tender.
Step 7
Stir in the cooked bacon and adjust seasoning if necessary before serving.
