Chilean Sopaipillas

Delicious Chilean-style sopaipillas made with squash, perfect as a snack or side dish. These golden, fried delights are easy to make and absolutely irresistible.

Ingredients

  • 500 g all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 60 g butter
  • 500 ml canola oil
  • 500 g squash

Directions

Step 1
Peel and cut the squash into small cubes.
Step 2
Boil the squash in water until tender, then drain and mash it.
Step 3
In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed squash with butter, baking soda, and flour. Mix until a dough forms.
Step 4
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness and cut into circles.
Step 5
Heat the canola oil in a deep pan to 180°C (350°F).
Step 6
Fry the dough circles in batches until golden brown, then drain on paper towels.
