A traditional Polish dish featuring cabbage leaves stuffed with a flavorful mixture of ground meat, rice, and spices, then simmered in a savory tomato sauce. Perfect for a hearty and comforting meal.
Directions
Step 1
Remove the core from the cabbage and place the whole head in a large pot of boiling water. Cook for a few minutes until the outer leaves are tender. Remove and cool. Carefully separate the leaves.
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, cooked rice, chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Step 3
Place a heaping tablespoon of the meat mixture onto the center of each cabbage leaf. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling and roll up from the thick end to the thin end.
Step 4
Place the rolls seam-side down in a large pot. Pour the tomato sauce and water over the rolls.
Step 5
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, covered, for about 90 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and the cabbage is tender.
