Directions
Step 1
In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
Step 2
Mix in sugar, salt, oil, and egg. Stir in flour, one cup at a time, to make a soft dough. Knead dough for about 8 minutes on a lightly floured surface or until smooth.
Step 3
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl and turn to coat. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 1 hour.
Step 4
Deflate the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll it into a large rectangle. Sprinkle evenly with raisins. Roll up the dough and pinch the seam to seal.
Step 5
Place the loaf in a lightly greased 9x5-inch loaf pan. Cover and let rise until doubled in volume, about 40 minutes.
Step 6
Preheat oven to 190 degrees C. Bake for about 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
Step 7
Remove from pan to cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
