Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

In a saucepan, combine the dates and water. Cook over medium heat until the dates are soft and the mixture is thick, about 10 minutes. Set aside to cool.

In a large bowl, cream together the brown sugar and butter until smooth.

Mix in the flour, rolled oats, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Press half of the oat mixture into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
