Stuffed Cabbage Rolls, also known as Halupki, are a classic dish made with cabbage leaves stuffed with a flavorful mixture of ground beef, pork, rice, and spices, then simmered in a rich tomato sauce.
Directions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F).
Step 2
Bring a large pot of water to boil. Core the cabbage and place in the boiling water. Boil for about 5-10 minutes until the leaves are pliable. Remove the cabbage and let it cool.
Step 3
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, cooked rice, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
Step 4
Carefully remove leaves from the cabbage head. Place about 2 tablespoons of the meat mixture in the center of each leaf, fold in the sides, and roll up the leaf to enclose the filling.
Step 5
In a large baking dish, spread a layer of tomato sauce on the bottom. Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish.
Step 6
In a bowl, mix the remaining tomato sauce with sugar and vinegar. Pour this mixture over the cabbage rolls.
Step 7
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1.5 to 2 hours.
Step 8
Serve hot and enjoy your stuffed cabbage rolls!
