  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup short-grain rice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups water
  • 4 cups whole milk

Directions

Step 1
Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
Step 2
In a large saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the rice and reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until the water is absorbed.
Step 3
Add the milk, sugar, cinnamon stick, and salt to the saucepan with the rice. Increase the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
Step 4
Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring frequently, until the mixture is thick and creamy, about 30-40 minutes.
Step 5
Remove the cinnamon stick and stir in the vanilla extract.
Step 6
