This classic baked flan recipe yields a smooth and creamy custard dessert with a rich caramel topping. It’s perfect for any occasion and sure to impress your guests.
Directions
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Step 2
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 200g of sugar and 60ml of water. Cook until the sugar has dissolved and turned into a golden caramel. Immediately pour the caramel into a round baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom evenly.
Step 3
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, whole milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Step 4
Pour the mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
Step 5
Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan. Fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the baking dish (this is called a water bath).
Step 6
Bake in the preheated oven for about 60 minutes or until the flan is set and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 7
Remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Step 8
To serve, run a knife around the edges of the baking dish to loosen the flan. Place a large plate over the baking dish and invert to release the flan onto the plate, allowing the caramel to drizzle over the top.
