  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 200 g granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 240 ml milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 60 g unsalted butter
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.

In another bowl, mix the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Step 3
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
Step 4
Cover the dough and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
Step 5
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness.

Use a doughnut cutter to cut out doughnuts and doughnut holes.
Step 7
Heat vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 175°C (350°F).

Carefully add doughnuts to the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.

Use a slotted spoon to transfer the doughnuts to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Let the doughnuts cool slightly before serving. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar or glaze as desired.
