Flammkuchen, also known as Tarte Flambée, is a delicious Alsatian dish similar to pizza, featuring a thin crust topped with crème fraîche, onions, and bacon.

Ingredients

  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 100 g bacon
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 200 g crème fraîche
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 125 ml water

Directions

Step 1
Preheat your oven to 250°C (482°F).
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine the flour, water, olive oil, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
Step 3
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
Step 4
Roll the dough out into a thin rectangle or circle.
Step 5
Spread the crème fraîche evenly over the rolled-out dough.
Step 6
Distribute the thinly sliced onions and diced bacon evenly over the crème fraîche.
Step 7
Season with a pinch of black pepper.
Step 8
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are crispy and the bacon is cooked.
Step 9
Remove from the oven, slice, and serve immediately.
