Ingredients

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 15 g baking powder
  • 120 g butter
  • 2 egg
  • 240 ml milk
  • 150 g raisins
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 100 g sugar

Directions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F).
Step 2
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 4
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and milk together, then add to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

Fold in the raisins if using.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead briefly. Roll out to a thickness of about 2 cm.

Cut into rounds using a cookie cutter or a glass.
Step 8
Place the rounds on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Cool on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy with jam and clotted cream.
