A traditional Irish Shepherd's Pie made with flavorful ground lamb, vegetables, and a creamy mashed potato topping. Perfect for a comforting dinner.

Ingredients

  • 250 ml beef broth
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 50 g butter
  • 2 carrots
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 500 g ground lamb
  • 100 ml milk
  • 1 onion
  • 100 g peas
  • 1 kg potatoes
  • 1 tsp rosemary
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Directions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
Step 2
In a large frying pan, cook the ground lamb over medium heat until browned.
Step 3
Add the chopped onion, diced carrots, peas, and minced garlic to the pan. Cook until the vegetables are tender.
Step 4
Stir in the tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, rosemary, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
Step 5
Meanwhile, cook the potatoes in a large pot of boiling salted water until tender. Drain well.
Step 6
Mash the potatoes with the butter and milk until smooth and creamy.
Step 7
Transfer the lamb mixture to a baking dish and spread the mashed potatoes on top.
Step 8
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until the top is golden and crispy.
Step 9
Let the Shepherd's Pie rest for a few minutes before serving.
