Baharat is a traditional Middle Eastern spice blend that adds depth and warmth to a variety of dishes. This homemade version allows you to tailor the spices to your taste.
Directions
Step 1
In a medium skillet over medium heat, toast the black peppercorns, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, cinnamon stick, whole cloves, and cardamom pods for about 2-3 minutes or until fragrant, stirring frequently to prevent burning.

Remove the skillet from heat and let the spices cool completely.
Step 3
Once cooled, place the toasted spices into a spice grinder or mortar and pestle and grind until you achieve a fine powder.
Step 4
Grate the nutmeg and add it to the ground spice mixture along with the paprika.
Step 5
Mix well to ensure all spices are thoroughly combined.
Step 6
Store the Baharat spice blend in an airtight container in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months.
