  • 0.5 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 0.5 cup paprika
  • 4.5 kg pork shoulder
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 0.5 cup water

Directions

Step 1
Preheat your smoker to 225°F (110°C).
Step 2
In a bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and mustard powder to create a dry rub.
Step 3
Rub the pork shoulder with the dry rub, making sure to cover all sides thoroughly.
Step 4
Place the pork shoulder in the smoker and smoke for about 6 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
Step 5
In a spray bottle, mix the apple cider vinegar, apple juice, and water.
Step 6
Spritz the pork shoulder with the mixture every hour to keep it moist.
Step 7
Once the pork reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C), wrap it in aluminum foil and continue smoking until the internal temperature reaches 195-205°F (90-96°C), about another 3-4 hours.
Step 8
Remove the pork shoulder from the smoker and let it rest for at least 30 minutes before shredding.
Step 9
Shred the pork using two forks and serve.
