Filipino Steamed Buns

Siopao are delicious Filipino steamed buns filled with savory pork. They are perfect as a snack or a meal and are enjoyed by many for their soft, fluffy texture and flavorful filling.

Ingredients

  • 10 g active dry yeast
  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 10 g baking powder
  • 5 g black pepper
  • 2 boiled eggs
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 500 g ground pork
  • 250 ml milk
  • 1 onion
  • 30 ml oyster sauce
  • 5 g salt
  • 60 ml soy sauce
  • 100 g sugar
  • 30 g sugar
  • 30 ml vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1
In a bowl, combine flour, 100g sugar, and baking powder.
Step 2
In a separate bowl, heat milk to lukewarm and dissolve yeast in it. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
Step 3
Combine the milk mixture with the flour mixture. Add vegetable oil and knead to form a dough. Let the dough rise for 1 hour.
Step 4
In a pan, sauté onion and garlic until fragrant. Add ground pork and cook until browned.
Step 5
Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, 30g sugar, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes.
Step 6
Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 portions. Flatten each portion and place a spoonful of pork filling and a quarter of a boiled egg in the center. Seal the edges.
Step 7
Place the buns on parchment paper and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Step 8
Steam the buns for 15-20 minutes or until cooked through and fluffy.
