Ingredients

10 Servings
  • 500 grams all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 480 milliliters buttermilk
  • 50 grams granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 60 grams unsalted butter

Directions

Step 1
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
Step 2
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Step 3
Cut the butter into small pieces and blend it into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 4
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until a soft dough forms.
Step 5
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently a few times to bring it together.
Step 6
Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Use a sharp knife to cut an 'X' into the top of the dough.
Step 7
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-45 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 8
Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
