Step 1
Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F).

In a large bowl, mix the self-raising flour and salt.

Rub the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Make a well in the center and add the milk and water. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Step 5
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently until smooth.

Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a baking tray lined with baking paper.

Score the top of the dough with a sharp knife to create an 'X' shape.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the damper sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
