Enjoy making these savory and delicious piroshki, a traditional Russian pastry filled with a delicious mix of meat, vegetables, and spices. Perfect as a snack or a main course.
Directions
Step 1
In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and dry yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
Step 2
Add melted butter, egg, salt, and flour to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
Step 3
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Step 4
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Step 5
In a skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, shredded cabbage, salt, and black pepper. Cook until the vegetables are tender. Set aside to cool.
Step 6
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
Step 7
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten it into a circle.
Step 8
Place a spoonful of the meat filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal.
Step 9
Place the filled piroshki on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with beaten egg for the egg wash.
Step 10
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
