Classic Butter Tarts

Butter tarts are a traditional Canadian dessert featuring a sweet and gooey filling encased in a flaky pastry. Perfect for any occasion, these tarts are easy to make and delicious to eat.

Ingredients

  • 200 g brown sugar
  • 175 ml corn syrup
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 package pastry dough
  • 75 g raisins
  • 1 g salt
  • 60 g unsalted butter
  • 5 ml vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1
Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F).
Step 2
Roll out the pastry dough on a lightly floured surface and cut into 12 rounds to fit a standard muffin tin.
Step 3
Press the dough rounds into the muffin cups.
Step 4
In a medium bowl, cream together the brown sugar, corn syrup, and unsalted butter until smooth.
Step 5
Beat in the eggs, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
Step 6
If using raisins, sprinkle a few into the bottom of each pastry shell.
Step 7
Pour the filling mixture into the prepared pastry shells, filling each about two-thirds full.
Step 8
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the filling is set and the pastry is golden brown.
Step 9
Allow the tarts to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
