Cheesy Spätzle is a traditional German dish that combines tender homemade egg noodles with rich, melted cheese and crispy onions. Perfect as a comforting main course or a hearty side dish.
Directions
Step 1
In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the eggs and water. Stir until smooth.
Step 2
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Using a Spätzle maker or colander, press the dough into the boiling water.
Step 3
Cook until the noodles float to the surface, then remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.
Step 4
Slice the onions and fry in butter until golden and crispy. Set aside.
Step 5
In a large ovenproof dish, layer the cooked Spätzle and grated cheese. Season with black pepper.
Step 6
Top with the crispy onions and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
