This easy horchata recipe is a refreshing Mexican drink made from rice, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon. Perfect for a hot day, it’s sweet, creamy, and delicious.

  • 2.5 g cinnamon
  • 240 ml milk
  • 180 g rice
  • 100 g sugar
  • 5 ml vanilla extract
  • 960 ml water

Directions

Step 1
Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
Step 2
In a blender, combine the rice and 2 cups of water. Blend until the rice is roughly ground.
Step 3
Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and add the remaining 2 cups of water. Let it sit at room temperature for at least 3 hours, or overnight for better flavor.
Step 4
Strain the rice mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a pitcher, discarding the rice solids.
Step 5
Stir in the milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
Step 6
Refrigerate until chilled. Stir well before serving. Serve over ice and enjoy.
