  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 115 g unsalted butter
  • 480 ml water
  • 5 kg whole turkey

Directions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 165°C (325°F).
Step 2
Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
Step 3
Rub the softened butter over the entire turkey.
Step 4
Season the turkey generously with salt and ground black pepper.
Step 5
Place the onion, celery, and carrots into the cavity of the turkey.
Step 6
Place the turkey on a rack inside a roasting pan and pour the water into the bottom of the pan.
Step 7
Roast the turkey in the preheated oven until the skin is golden brown and the juices run clear, about 3 to 3.5 hours.
Step 8
Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
