Classic Hamantashen

These classic Hamantashen are delicious, triangular cookies filled with your choice of sweet fillings. Perfect for Purim or any festive occasion.

Ingredients

  • 480 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • filling of choice
  • 60 ml orange juice
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 200 g sugar
  • 225 g unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Step 2
In another bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Step 3
Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract and orange juice.
Step 4
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Step 5
Divide the dough into two disks, wrap each in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Step 6
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Step 7
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8-inch thickness. Cut out circles using a round cookie cutter or glass.
Step 8
Place a teaspoon of your chosen filling in the center of each circle.
Step 9
Fold the edges of the dough over the filling to form a triangle, pinching the corners to seal.
Step 10
Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
Step 11
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
