This traditional French Canadian Meat Pie, also known as Tourtière, is a savory blend of ground meats and spices encased in a flaky pie crust. It's perfect for family gatherings and festive occasions.
Directions
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
Step 2
In a large skillet, cook the ground pork and ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
Step 3
Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and chopped celery to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are soft.
Step 4
Stir in the grated potato, water, salt, pepper, ground cloves, ground cinnamon, and ground allspice. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 5
Remove the skillet from heat and let the meat mixture cool slightly.
Step 6
Line a pie dish with one of the pie crust sheets. Fill with the meat mixture.
Step 7
Cover the pie with the second pie crust sheet. Seal and flute the edges. Cut small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
Step 8
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
Step 9
Let the pie cool for a few minutes before serving.
