A classic American dish, Boston Baked Beans is a hearty and flavorful recipe featuring navy beans slow-cooked with molasses, brown sugar, and salt pork. Perfect for a comforting meal.
Directions
Step 1
Soak the navy beans in water overnight.
Step 2
Drain and rinse the beans, then place them in a large pot with 8 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour.
Step 3
Preheat your oven to 150°C (300°F).
Step 4
Drain the beans, reserving the cooking liquid.
Step 5
In an ovenproof pot, combine the beans, onion, molasses, brown sugar, salt pork, dry mustard, salt, black pepper, and ketchup.
Step 6
Pour enough of the reserved cooking liquid into the pot to just cover the beans.
Step 7
Cover the pot and bake in the preheated oven for 5 to 6 hours, until the beans are tender. Check occasionally and add more reserved cooking liquid if needed.
Step 8
Remove the cover during the last 30 minutes of baking to allow the beans to brown on top.
