Classic Dauphinoise Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 30 g butter
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 100 g grated Gruyère cheese
  • 300 ml heavy cream
  • 0.5 tsp nutmeg
  • 800 g potatoes
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions

Step 1
Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F).
Step 2
Butter a baking dish and set aside.
Step 3
In a saucepan, heat the cream, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat.
Step 4
Arrange a layer of potatoes in the bottom of the prepared dish.
Step 5
Pour a portion of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with a bit of Gruyère cheese.
Step 6
Repeat the layering process until all the potatoes, cream, and cheese are used, finishing with a layer of cheese.
Step 7
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 60 minutes.
Step 8
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender.
Step 9
Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
