Simple Mexican Hot Chocolate

  • 0.5 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4 cups milk
  • 0.5 cup sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • whipped cream

Directions

Step 1
In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, cocoa powder, sugar, and cinnamon.
Step 2
Heat the mixture over medium heat, whisking constantly until the sugar and cocoa are dissolved and the mixture is hot, but not boiling.
Step 3
Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and cayenne pepper, if using.
Step 4
Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with whipped cream if desired.
